already know about the topic?
Throughout the five years I worked as a library aide, I
learned that sharing literature with children is very important. It would amaze
me to see the joy in students when the librarian and I would introduce a new
book to them. Sharing is definitely fun!
Just like athletes engage in sports, I engage in reading and passing that on
makes a difference in a student’s education and language development. It is
well known that the more you read, the more you know. If children start
listening to stories at a young age, they will develop that natural vocabulary
and love for reading. It also develops life-long readers that will enjoy
reading for fun and pleasure.
Many awards are given to books and authors that meet certain
criteria. Each year, associations develop different lists of books that are the
best of the best in a variety of categories.
Nowadays, literary elements are introduced to children at a
very young age. It is important for children to identify these elements and be
able to define them easily. Understanding the literary elements helps interpret
a story better. It also helps children
reproduce them in stories of their own.

after you completed reading.
Without a doubt, I have learned many new things. It is
amazing to see that reading twenty minutes a day can certainly make a
difference. A student that is exposed to reading, will definitely have better
acquisition of language and language development compared to a student that is
not. Reading also develops empathy. It is unquestionably true that certain
stories make you connect with them and have feelings that build a bond. Those
books become extra special because you can identify yourself with them. Culture
and diversity also play a very important role in literature because they are a
strong part of people’s lives. Children need to read about a variety of
cultures year round in order to learn about the different influences, views,
hopes, values, beliefs, and fears.
Some of the major awards in children’s literature include
Newberry, Caldecott, and Sibert. These awards are given to different authors
and illustrators that meet
certain criteria. For example, most distinguished American picture book or to
the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for
young children.
Literary elements
and literary devices are important to a critical evaluation of children’s literature.
It is essential to know the meaning of all elements and devices in order to be
able to use and identify them in the future.

need to learn.
It is evident, that there are many benefits in sharing
literature with children. However, how
do we know which are the best books to pick? As a librarian, what do we do if a
student is not interested in a book you absolutely think is wonderful? How can
we encourage reading to students that have never been exposed to it?

share this information with others
Everything I learned about sharing literature with children
is imperative for parents, teachers, and future librarians. Reading will
definitely improve a child’s education, vocabulary, imagination, and culture. I
will share all the information I learned with my co-workers and family members
that have young children. I will present to them the benefits of reading and
how fun it can simply be by putting together a short pamphlet that will contain
a variation of links where they can read more about the different kinds of
books, awards, literary elements, and devices.
