Social media has become one of the most popular trends out there. No matter the age, almost everyone has some sort of social media account that they use as a daily activity. It is typically used for social interaction and access to news and information. It is a great way to communicate with others locally or worldwide.
Facebook:
Facebook is the one social networking website that I have
been faithful to for the past nine years. I remember creating an account my
senior year just because everyone else was talking about it. But as time went
by, I figured out that it is a great way to communicate with others especially
those that don’t live close to you. Many other things can be done such as
sharing news, advertising, etc.
Today as I explored school libraries on Facebook, I came
across several pages that basically share the same things. Some of the things
they have in common are that they all promote the different activities that
take place in the library. They also share pictures of events, contests, author
visits, and even professional development. One that caught my attention was
Etiwanda School Library. These past few days, they have been sharing different
summer recommendations such as activities that students can be a part of and eBooks
that can be downloaded at home. I think it is awesome that students are out of
school, but the librarian keeps up with social media to give students different
literacy options that they can still do over the summer.
Twitter:
To be honest, I’ve had a Twitter account for some time now,
but it is not one that I use all the time. However, I do know it is an amazing
social media platform that has become one of the most popular trends out there.
Because of this, it is my goal to keep updated with it from now on. It is a
great way to learn and share ideas. The more people I follow, the better I like
it. I find it very useful to read tweets that have to do with educational recommendations,
news, technology, and professional development. I feel that as a future
librarian, this is the perfect way to communicate anything in short messages to
the people that follow you.

in the classroom.
Linda Braun @lbraun2000 is the former president for YALSA and promotes
literature and technology.
Alan November @globalearner is an advocate for digital learning.
The Daring Librarian @GwynethJones offers great advice and resources that librarians
can find very helpful. She also provides links to her websites where she
answers questions and things in more detail.
Jim Lerman @jimlerman shares amazing technology tips and resources that
librarians and teachers can use.
Instagram:
Wow!! Instagram is such a remarkable social media app. I love
how you are able to share pictures and videos with short hash tags or phrases
that will catch everyone’s eye. I can honestly see myself using this platform
with my future students, parents, and the entire community. It is a great way
to promote and showcase events and activities that take place in the library.
I’m sure parents would love to see their children in action.
