The main reason we share literature with children is because it is simply FUN! Research shows that becoming a lifelong reader establishes a love of reading. It also helps in the acquisition of language and language development. With reading at least twenty minutes a day at home, children will gain knowledge of about 1,800,000 words per year. Isn’t amazing? Developing empathy is also something that is done through literature. Stories provide the possibility of educating the feelings and developing appropriate human behavior. Life long readers are those who are exposed to literature since a young age. It is essential to read autobiographically, for various experiences, for philosophical speculation, and to develop the imagination. Furthermore, children need to read about a variety of cultures year round in order to learn about the different influences, views, hopes, values, beliefs, and fears.

Sharing literature with children is very important. Even young adults can benefit from reading. It is amazing to see that reading twenty minutes a day can certainly make a difference. A student that is exposed to reading will definitely have better acquisition of language and language development compared to a student that is not. Empathy is surely developed when certain stories make you connect with them and have feelings that build a bond. Those books become extra special because you can identify yourself with them.  Sharing young adult literature will without a doubt have a positive impact on anyone that enjoys it for pleasure.
