Crenshaw. Feiwel and Friends
Summary: Jackson is a young boy in the fourth grade.
His family often goes through very hard times where they have no money for rent
or food. Sadly, they often find themselves moving or living in their vehicles.
Jackson creates an imaginary friend named Crenshaw that reappears every time
he’s going through a hard time. Crenshaw is a large, outspoken cat that talks
to him, plays with him, and simply keeps him company. But, it gets to a point
where the young boy questions why he needs Crenshaw so much. He just doesn’t
want to be a child anymore. With everything he goes through, he then realizes
that sometimes it is okay to have some sort of fantasy in his life.
REVIEW: Beautiful book that young middle school
students will love. It involves themes about friendship, family, financial
issues, and magic. It is a great way to start interesting topics about poverty
and unity. I highly recommend reading it!
