George

Gino, A. (2015).  George.  NY:  Scholastic.
Summary: George is a transgender student in fourth grade. She was actually born a boy, but on the inside she knows she’s really a girl. One day, the teacher announces that the class will be performing Charlotte’s Web. George gets very excited because she would love to be Charlotte. However, the teacher makes it very clear that Charlotte is a role for a girl, not a boy. Kelly is her best friend that discovers her secret but supports her 100%. Together they come up with a plan for George to play the role of Charlotte and teach everyone a lesson.

REVIEW: Not only is this middle school novel heart-warming and engaging, it is also eye opening and significant. This is one of the few books for children that introduce a transgender character. It will definitely teach students so many things that nowadays are very common.
