De la Pena, M.
(2015). Last stop on market street. NY: Penguin.
Summary: Every Sunday after church, CJ and his grandma
ride the bus across town. Along the way, they encounter people who are from
different backgrounds, religions, and socioeconomic status. CJ questions his
grandmother on why he doesn’t have certain things that others do. She always
has the perfect response for him.
Review: The illustrations are the best part of the
book. You can easily find yourself just looking through each picture and even
imagining that you are there. This book
can be used to teach a variety of things like kindness, appreciation, and
diversity. Elementary students will love it.
