Freight Train

Crews, D. (1992). Freight train. New York: A Mulberry Paperback Book.

Summary: When Freight Train races by a track he introduces each part of the train through different color variations such as the red caboose, orange tank car, green car with cattle, purple boxcar, and black engine. Once all the parts have been introduced, the train moves in a rainbow blur throughout tunnels and cities through day and night. It travels until it passes completely from view and the only thing left is a cloud of steam.

Review: This is a fun book about trains that also teaches children about colors. The simple narrative and illustrations are sure to toddlers and preschoolers. Each page contains no more than five words, making it a great source for beginners. The conclusion leaves the mind to wonder and imagine where the train has gone next.
