Andrews, T. C. (2017). TROMBONE SHORTY. Live Oak Media.
Summary: Troy Andrews AKA "Trombone Shorty” had a passion for
music since he was a young boy. He lived in New Orleans, where you could hear
music floating through the air any day or night. As a child, he and his friends
decided to form a band by making their own instruments. Then, he found an
instrument that he loved, a trombone. The trombone was way bigger than him, but
he still managed to carry it with him everywhere. That’s how he got his
nickname of “Trombone Shorty.” His mother and brother supported him all along
the way. As an adult, he was able to travel the world sharing what he loved
most.
Review: It is an excellent story for young children to learn about
perseverance, community, and love for music. It shows how he never gave up and
how his family always supported him. It demonstrates terrific illustrations
especially the ones where you can see Troy Andrews with his trombone.
