Summary: Celia, a young girl who lived in Havana, Cuba loved her family dearly.
They had a warm kitchen filled with rice, beans, bananas, coffee, and lots and
lots of sugar. She went to school and did very well in all subjects including
music. One day, her favorite teacher told her to go into the world and sing.
The revolution began, and like many others, Celia had to travel to other
countries. She
then becomes a famous super star using her music and voice to bring happiness
and joy to everyone. She was known as the queen of salsa.
Review: It is a wonderful bilingual biography of The Life of Celia Cruz. It can be read to children from Kindergarten to 3rd. grade. I love how it is portrayed in a children’s book with bright and colorful illustrations that match the colorful life of Celia. This bilingual book is a great way to introduce famous Hispanics and their contributions to American culture.
