Dear Mr. Henshaw

Cleary, B. (1983).   Dear Mr. Henshaw.  NY:  Morrow.

Summary: Leigh Botts is a second grader whose favorite author is Mr. Henshaw. For four years, he communicates with him through letters and tells him about things that happen in his life like his parent’s divorce, his dad’s broken promises, and even a writing contest. One day, Mr. Henshaw suggests to start writing everything inside a journal. This definitely helps Leigh let out all his anger and everything he feels inside. The boy that once started writing to his favorite author soon becomes a young man that accepts everything he goes through.

Review: A brilliant book that shows that writing can help you let out feelings. Great novel that includes some humor for young readers to enjoy and learn about things that can happen in anyone’s life.
